ICs

Without integrated circuits (ICs or chips) this project might be possible but would be more difficult to follow and require far more complicated circuits than I’ve had to make.

As I’ve said on other pages I’ve stuck to only using ICs when I felt I could replicate their function using basic components. In some cases this is more straightforward than others. For example, creating a NAND gate is simple enough so using a 4011 chip which gives me four of them is OK but before I can use a memory chip I have to show how to handle an address bus, a data bus and a multiplexer.
